How Prenatal Paternity Testing Is Done

FAQs - Frequently Asked Questions About Prenatal Paternity Testing

We understand that uncertainty about paternity can be deeply stressful, especially during pregnancy. Our prenatal paternity testing offers a compassionate, confidential solution to give you the clarity you need with just a simple, non-invasive procedure. Here are some of the most questions we hear from customers:

  • Does prenatal paternity hurt? Absolutely not! The mother undergoes a blood draw and the father undergoes a cheek swab.
  • What does noninvasive mean? Noninvasive means that the procedure does not require any surgical incisions into the body and thus poses no risk of harm to the fetus or the mother. NIPP testing is performed using a blood sample from the mother, which contains free-floating fetal DNA. This DNA is then compared to a cheek swab sample from the potential father.
  • Will my insurance cover the NIPP (noninvasive prenatal paternity testing)? Most insurance plans do not cover this procedure. If you have a FSA/HSA, call them to see this medical test can be paid for with those FSA or HSA funds.
  • How early can prenatal paternity testing be done? This test can be done once the mother is 7 weeks in her pregnancy.
  • What should I expect during the prenatal paternity test? The tester will show up at the appointed time. You will provide your state issued identification so the tester can verify your identity and document this information on all test samples. The tester will conduct a blood draw to send to the laboratory. It will consist of 2 vials. The father will undergo a cheek swab test. Both samples will be promptly sent to the laboratory and Precise DNA Testing will call you within 5 days with your results. The results will be either 0.00% - negative or 99.9% positive.
  • What do I do if the mother refused to take a prenatal paternity test? You may decide to test after the child is born. Those test are found here: Paternity Testing
  • How much does the prenatal paternity test costs? Our prenatal paternity test cost $1899
  • Do you offer payment plans for this prenatal paternity test? Yes, if you want this test, we can split the payment in half. Pay $950.00 when you call and schedule the test and the remaining half $949.00 before the test is completed.
  • Where can the prenatal paternity test be done? We offer this test all over the United States. Call us and we can locate our testers that are in your vicinity to conduct the test. If we don't have a tester near you, we can schedule a test with a local lab.
  • I'm not sure I'm the father, should I get the prenatal paternity test? Talk with the mother and see if she is willing to get the test done. If you want 99.9% certainty of your child before the birth, we recommend you get a prenatal paternity test.
